Timberlake gets cooking again

Pop star Justin Timberlake is trying his luck as a restaurateur again - two years after his swanky Los Angeles diner closed.

The singer and best friends Eytan Sugarman and Trace Ayala launched new barbecue restaurant, Southern Hospitality, in New York on Wednesday night.

The menu serves up the traditional Memphis-style cuisine Timberlake enjoyed as a child, growing up in Tennessee. Many of the dishes are derived from Timberlake family recipes.

The pop star’s grandmother, who offered up many of her own dessert concoctions for the menu, was the guest of honour when the restaurant opened for business on Wednesday.

Jay-Z, Lance Bass and Jamie-Lynn Sigler were also on hand at the launch, where spare ribs, homemade buttermilk biscuits and crab and corn fritters were served.

Timberlake insists the new restaurant will have a very different “vibe” to his last restaurant venture, Chi, which was housed at the Hyatt hotel in Hollywood.

That restaurant closed under mysterious circumstances after becoming one of Los Angeles’ most star-studded eateries.
