Fantastic Night At G-Sun
Hundreds of patrons were treated to a night of song and dance at the Gaborone Sun by South African group, the Fantastic Four. It was not a live band yet the performers produced something extraordinary. They performed with lighting effects and a huge screen that beamed some of the singers’ videos.
When a video was not playing, exciting computer effects would play on the screen to enhance the performance of the singers.
The use of computer technology to add colour and excitement was well received by the revellers as the fantastic foursome dished out popular hits and music from their albums.
The group, made up of Pieter Koen, Lyne Van Jou Lyf, Michelle van Staden and Irene is relatively unknown in Botswana but this did not deter hundreds of show lovers from going to the Gaborone Sun to enjoy themselves. And they got their money’s worth. Koen was perhaps the toast of the show with his naughty stage acts and high sense of humour that left many laughing throughout his performance.
His original song, ‘Biscuit’, was warmly received by both the English speaking and Afrikaner revellers. Koen impressed with the way he shook his waist to the high tempo dance beat of the song.
He would do well as a stand up comedian because his Afrikaans and English jokes tickled every body.
‘Tattoo’, another original song from his latest album, proved popular. Although all the four individually had different singing styles, rock and roll appears to be the common denominator among them. None of them left the stage without dishing out rock and roll tunes to the delight of those who love the genre.
At some point, Koen and Michelle appeared on stage in full heavy metal wear to perform a duet.
At the beginning it looked like the show was headed for disaster when Van Jou Lyf spoke Afrikaans all the way to an audience where a majority do not understand the language.
The introduction of the Fantastic 4 was also done in Afrikaans. Irene immediately turned things around when she communicated well with the audience and warmed their hearts with a stunning ‘Simply the Best’. She set the tone, and from then it was party time all the way.
